I have always pondered a lot about what is the most important quality a person should have. Often I used to zero in on intelligence, hard-work, seriousness/discipline, truthfulness and honesty in the past. These are the qualities, that our books and our elders tell us to imbibe. But I don’t think that one should strive for only these things. They are important too, but I don’t think that these are primary. These are all secondary things.
There is another set of qualities that are even more important. Those are courage, respect and curiosity.
The most important thing a person should have is courage. One should be courageous in face of adversity, meet challenges head on, never buckle under pressure and should be able to draft into uncharted territories with courage. Whenever, you are going through tough times, people ask you to “Be Brave”. Follow it always in life.
And to tell you a secret, I am not at all brave.
The next important thing is Respect. One should have respect for oneself and others. Never be disrespectful to anyone, including yourself. This includes under-estimating yourself/others. Mocking your/other person’s intelligence or honour.
I sometimes fail on this account too, but I try not to.
Lastly, one should never lose the curiosity in one’s life. It leads to many unexpected discoveries and joys around you.
My curiosity has dampened over the years.
I will try to imbibe these three qualities. Tell me your views on this(if you manage to read till here and did not already leave the page :) )
Nice post.
ReplyDeleteBut of all the qualities there is one jiska tere me overdose hai.
"I sometimes fail on this account too, but I try not to."
"My curiosity has dampened over the years."
"And to tell you a secret, I am not at all brave."
Yep you guessed it right. "Modesty"
Take it easy on yourself. Considering the qualities you mentioned; you are doing better than most.
courage gets you killed...
ReplyDeletecuriosity is reputed and famous for having killed the cat....
n respect usually suppresses ur ability to question the decisions of the respected.
?
=)
and all the secondary ones also demand the primaries:
ReplyDeleteuntill u have courage ,u cant be truthful.
curiosity is intelligence to seek knowlege.
and respect is all together a whole subject.
"I sometimes fail on this account too, but I try not to."

I think you are brave to admit these things.
@Karan: Pata nahin yaar, but "better than most" although good, is not satisfactory still.
ReplyDelete@Niti: You are so right...
@Vikas: Thanks. Seems I have taken the first step towards it.
You got it wrong. What I meant from taking it easy and "better than most" was not being too hard on yourself.
ReplyDeleteThe stepping stone imbibing a quality is believing that you have it in you rather than believing that you are a zilch.
But good to see that you got it wrong, but still in the right way.
Next time i'll write "better than the best" :D
